Name: Paris Hill Music Festival
Date: August 11, 2017
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
The Paris Hill Music Festival will be held August 10-13, 2017 on Paris Hill in South Paris.  This year's festival features four groups representing 3 genres of music who all are based in Maine.  The concerts will be held in the historic First Baptist Church of Paris Hill known for its wonderful acoustics.

Schooner Fare, that started in South Paris, will perform the initial concert on August 10. The band writes and performs topical songs, country ballads and maritime masterpieces that have made their name synonymous with the "Down East" style. They play their folk songs on six-string guitars, twelve-string guitars, and banjos. Don't miss their wonderful Maine humor they interject throughout the performance.  (Ticket cost:  $25/person)

On Friday, August 11, the DaPonte String Quartet will perform once again at First Baptist Church.  This is one of their favorite destinations in western Maine.  The quartet, who originally hailed from the Philadelphia Symphony, are celebrating their 25th anniversary in Maine.  In 2015  they were recognized as the #1 Music Group of Maine across all genres of music.  They perform on two violins, a cello, and a viola.  Although subject to change, their program is scheduled to include the following works:  Ludwig van Beethoven: Quartet Op. 59, No. 1 and  Ottorino Respighi: Quartetto Dorico.  (Ticket price:  $20/person)

Saturday, August 12, no doubt, most folks are thrilled to have Noel Paul Stookey coming to Paris Hill for the very first time.  He is recognized best as one of the trio known to the world as "Peter, Paul, and Mary."  This folk group was famous in the 1960's, but Paul continued on after the trio as a solo act.   Stookey’s solo voice is firmly established, writing and performing music that addresses social change while speaking of and to the soul; fusing jazz improvisation and insightful folk lyrics. The political, sociopolitical, spiritual, and cultural dynamics of life’s stories continue to drive his songs.  (Ticket price:  $30/person)

Sunday, August 13, an afternoon of jazz will be performed by the Chris Humphrey Jazz Quartet from Kennebunk, Maine.  Members of the Chris Humphrey Big Band have played with many musical luminaries including Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, James Moody, Artie Shaw, Guy Lombardo, Tony Bennett, Bob Mintzer, Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, The Beach Boys, The Four Tops and The Temptations among others.  On this Sunday afternoon, there will be a piano, drums, bass, and saxophone performing jazz for a summer afternoon.  What a wonderful way to end our first annual Paris Hill Music Festival!  (Ticket price:  $20/person)

Tickets will go on sale June 1 at the following locations in Norway and South Paris:  Book-n-Things in Norway, Bolster's Decorating in South Paris at Market Square, and at the Paris Hill Country Club on Paris Hill.  Tickets can also be bought via phone at 207-743-9390.  There is a combination special discounted ticket of $80/person for all four concerts.  The first three concerts are at 7 p.m. and the jazz concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
