Name: Opening Day at McLaughlin Garden & Homestead
Date: May 12, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
McLaughlin Garden & Homestead begins its 20th anniversary season on Friday, May 12 with a special presentation on insects, the opening of the plant sale, and tours of the garden's wildflowers.

Kathy Murray, from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is the state's Integrated Pest Management Program Coordinator. All are welcome to hear her presentation at 2 pm in the historic barn.

Gardeners who are interested in pollinators and want to learn how to use beneficial insects to combat garden problems will enjoy the presentation. Ornamental gardeners are concerned about the best way to safely get rid of (or at least limit damage) from pest insects such as the lily leaf beetle, aphids, and Japanese beetles. Vegetable gardeners also battle insect pests.

Wildflower Celebration tours will take place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, led by the horticulture director, at 12:30 PM. The garden and plant sale will be open from 10-4 pm. Also, our new self-serve café will be open with coffee, tea, and treats supplied by Pietree Orchards.
