Name: Archery & Laser Shooting at Maine Wildlife Park
Date: May 13, 2017
Time: 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM EDT
Event Description:
Visit the Maine Wildlife Park on Route 26 in Gray on Saturday May 13th to join certified Firearm & Archery Safety Instructors for the Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and University of Maine 4-H Camp & Learning Center in Bryant Pond, for hands-on fun and practice with a great introduction to the safe sport of archery & Laser Rifle target shooting! From 10 a.m.-12 pm, kids ages 9 and up will have a chance to try their hand at archery, shoot a bow, and learn basic safety and shooting skills with 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors. From 12:30-2:30pm, young folks ages 6 and up will have a chance to learn basic gun handling and shooting skills, while using our laser rifles.

Archery has had a long history in recreational sports; and participants range from grade-school age children to senior citizens. Archery is an extremely safe sport, easily learned, a great hobby, and becoming increasingly popular in Maine.

Staff from the UMaine 4-H camp will set up targets, showcase a variety of bows and provide instruction so you and your kids can try your hands at archery. This is an activity that appeals to families, all genders and all age groups. It’s an extremely fast growing sport; and is a new way to approach both traditional target shooting and hunting opportunities. Come and try it out to see if your family is ready to pick up a great new sport.  www.Umaine.edu/bryantpond

New for 2017, Bryant Pond's 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors will be offering a laser rifle range experience. From 12:30-2:30pm, young folks ages 6 and up will have a chance to learn basic gun handling and shooting skills, while using our laser rifles. We'll cover shot placement using several 3-D targets and briefly talk about hunting ethics.

For several years, there has been a constant stream of excited kids (and their parents) waiting to try their hand at hitting their targets. Several enthusiastic visitors appeared to be naturals after trying it out for the first time ever. We are certainly expecting the same or better turn out this year, especially with the chance to try the laser rifles! If your child really enjoys it, you might consider Bryant Pond’s shooting sports camps, with all of the great camp wide activities you’d expect at Bryant Pond.
